In this tutorial, I’m going to share how to easily add age verification on any WordPress site.

Why it is important to add age verification to site
There may be several reasons to add age verification to your WordPress site such as,
- Your article may contain adult content or something that is not right for children.
- You sell or promote alcohol which is not right for the youth.
- Your content is on violence.
- You provide a service like a valid credit card or driver’s license
- And many more.
If any of these reasons exist on your site, then you should add age verification system on your site so that when visitors access the content, they will need to verify the age.
How to Add Age Verification on WordPress Site
First, you need to install and activate the Age Gate plugin on your site. This is the best WordPress Age Verification Plugin which allows you to set restrictions based on age on your WordPress site.
- Ask users to verify their age on page load.
- You can choose age verification on the entire site or specific content.
- Allow a “remember me” checkbox.
- You can add your own logo.
- Allow customizing background color/image, foreground color and text color.
- You can set the required age on the website.
Once the plugin is activated, it will add a new menu item to your WordPress dashboard with Age Gate label. Just click on it. This will take you to the plugin’s settings page.
In this page, you can set a minimum age verification according to your need. After this, you can apply age verification restriction to the entire website or only on a specific page.
Its “Varied ages” option allows you to add a different age to different posts and pages on your website.
The plugin adds three options to display age verification,
- Input fields
- Dropdown boxes
- Yes/No buttons
You can choose Age restriction form according to your needs.
The plugin adds a Remember me checkbox to your Age verification page. So that visitors do not need to verify Age again when they visit your site. Also, you can set Remember length and select a date format.
After configuring all the settings, click on the save changes button. Now visit your site to check age verification screen. Your page will look like this.
Customizing Message for Age Verification
First, click on the Messaging tab. Here you can add your own title, description, and any other information you want to display for the age verification restrictions.
Customizing Appearance Settings for Age Verification
Next, click on the Appearance tab. Here you can change the background color, foreground color, background image, text color, and many more. You can see screenshot below,
You can also enable Gutenberg support and other advanced settings by going to the Advanced tab.
How to Set Age Verification Restriction for Specific Posts or Page
If you want to set age verification restriction for specific posts or page, first you need to check “Varied Ages” by going to “Age Gate Restriction Settings” page.
Simply click on the edit button of post or page. You will see a Restricted option within the publish meta box. You can also change the age restriction by clicking on the change button.
