It is not an error. When you run an update on your site, it displays maintenance mode notification for your entire site. However, this error automatically goes in a few seconds.

But sometimes your WordPress site stuck in the maintenance mode if the server is timeout or interrupted during the update. As a result, you have to face,

How to Fix Briefly Unavailable for Scheduled Maintenance in WordPress

Fixing Maintenance Mode error is not a challenging task. You can easily resolve it.

When the WordPress site goes into Maintenance Mode, it creates a “.maintenance” file in the root folder. And when the update is complete, WordPress automatically delete it.

But for some reason, the file remains and causes Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance.

1. Fix Maintenance Mode Using cPanel

To fix the maintenance mode problem, login to cPanel of your web hosting and navigate to the root folder. Here search for “.maintenance” file and delete it.

If you unable to see .maintenance file in your site’s root directory then check the option to show hidden files. It allows you to see hidden files in your root folder.

2. Fix Maintenance Mode Using FTP

First, connect your site with an FTP client and delete .maintenance file from your site’s root directory. If you can’t find .maintenance file in root directory, then click on Server >> Force showing hidden files from the menu bar. This option helps you see hidden files.

Once you delete the file, your site will go live. Also, clear the cache of your WordPress site.
