How to Setup Site Kit by Google in WordPress

Do you want to set up Google Site Kit in your WordPress site?

The Google Site Kit is a plugin developed by Google that easily connects following Google Services such as Search Console, Google Analytics, PageSpeed Insights, Google AdSense, Google Optimize and Google Tag Manager directly to your WordPress site.

Once connected, you will be able to see search, analytics, PageSpeed and other data, directly in your WordPress dashboard.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to setup Google Site Kit in WordPress.

What is Google Site Kit

Site Kit is the official WordPress plugin from Google for insights about how people find and use your site. It gives up-to-date insights from multiple Google products directly on the WordPress dashboard.

The Site Kit plugin allows you to add six services:

  • Search Console
  • Google Analytics
  • PageSpeed Insights
  • Google AdSense
  • Google Optimize
  • Tag Manager

Now let’s start with how to install and configure Google Site Kit in WordPress…

How to Setup Site Kit by Google in WordPress

First, install and activate the Site Kit by Google plugin in your WordPress site. Once activated click on Start Setup.

In the next screen, it will take you outside your WordPress site to the Google Site Kit website. Just click on Sign in with Google button to start the process. (You need to sign in to the Gmail account that has access to your site’s Search Console profile).

Enter your email ID, password, and click the Next button.

Once logged in you need to grant permissions for Google to access the data in your Search Console profile. Click on the Allow buttons.

After allowing all permissions, you will get completion notification. You can click “Go to my dashboard”.

Now, you have successfully completed the Google Site Kit setup and connected the Google Search Console to the WordPress website. You’ll see options for adding other services such as Analytics, AdSense and PageSpeed Insight.

Steps to Link Your Google Analytics to Google Site Kit

If you do not have a Google Analytics account, manually create one and then add the tracking code to your WordPress site. The Site Kit cannot automatically create a new Google Analytics account for you.

Click on Site Kit >> Settings >> Connect More Services tab. Then click on Set up Analytics.

Select your primary Google account that has access to your Google Analytics.

Grant all permissions after login. Just click on the Allow button.

Now the Google Site Kit will return to the WordPress dashboard. The Site Kit automatically selects the correct Google Analytics property.

Just you have to click on Configure Analytics.

Congratulation..! Google Analytics is successfully linked to the Google Site Kit in WordPress. You can see your Analytics and Search Console data in the Site Kit dashboard.

Here is dashboard with Search Console, analytics and PageSpeed Insights enabled. You can see a clear breakdown of metrics for your entire site.

The plugin allows you to see separate reporting for Search Console and Analytics and other services.
