How to Find Bad Backlinks from a Website
Here I will use three tools to find bad backlinks:
- Google Search Console Tool
- Moz Explorer
- SEMrush
Method 1: Using Google Search Console Tool
It is a manual and time consuming process.
First, log in to Google Search Console Tool, then click on the Link >> Top linking sites >> More. Here you will see such sites which are linked to your site and giving you backlinks. You can see in the screenshot below.

After that click Download button to download this list.

Now you have to check it yourself whether it has any spam link or not. If you find spam, unrelated or unnatural links in this list, write it in your notepad.
In the next step, I will tell you how to remove toxic backlinks. But here I will learn about another method of finding spam backlinks.
Method 2: Using Moz Explorer
Moz is a very big SEO company that analyzes inbound links, linking domain, anchor text, Spam score etc of any website. This is a paid tool.
First, visit Moz Link Explorer site and sign up or sign in.
- Add the URL address of the site and click on the search icon.
- Now click on Spam Score in the left side.

You will now be able to see the list of spam backlinks. If you have a free account it will show you a few links. You must upgrade it to see all the links.
Now, click on Export CSV to download the result.

Method 3: Using SEMrush
- First, visit the SEMrush Backlink Audit.
- Add the URL of your site. It will audit your site backlink.
- Next click on “Audit”. As you can see screenshot below.

- It will show Toxic backlinks with Score (60-100 – domain is Toxic, 45-59 – domain is Potentially Toxic). Just select the toxic backlink from the list you want to remove.

Next click on Delete >> To Disavow.

Now navigate to Disavow tab and click on Export to TXT.

Your disavow file will start downloading.
Now we have a list of bad backlinks, so let’s start to remove them…
How to Remove Bad Backlinks from Website
A few years ago, There was no easy way to control low-quality backlinks.
But thankfully, Google launched a Google Disavow Tool that allows webmasters to report and submit a text file to remove spam link or toxics link.
Google does not value those domain links for which you reported using the Google Disavow Link Tool.
To remove spam backlinks from your site, first of all, create a text file and type bad backlinks that you want to remove from your site. Which we already have.
Go to the Google Disavow tool page and select your domain from the drop-down, then click on Disavow Links.

Next page, again click on the Disavow links.

Here just upload your spam link’s text file and click on Submit button.

Now you will see a message “You successfully uploaded a disavow links file” like this.

After uploading the file, wait 1-2 weeks to see its effect, because Google will reindex and crawl those pages again.
